UCI ASCC Clinical Research Coordinator Training Program (CRCTP)

The Alpha Stem Cell Clinic Clinical Research Training Program was developed to support workforce development in clinical research. The comprehensive program will introduce candidates to clinical research coordinator (CRC) job duties and responsibilities and the necessary training to become a certified CRC at UC Irvine. The UCI ASCC Clinical Research Coordinator Training Program (CRCTP) aims to provide training and in-depth knowledge of cell and gene therapy research and clinical trials for those interested in clinical research careers at UCI.

Currently, there are no training programs for Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) at UCI. All CRCs at UCI who are hired receive on-the-job training rather than knowledge and skill-building prior to coordinating subject care and visits. In collaboration with the UCSF CRC boot camp program, we have designed the ASCC CRCTP as a hybrid program, with modules both online and in-person clinical shadowing. The anticipated cohort size is estimated to be between 3-10 enrollees.

Program Objectives:

• To introduce CRC job responsibilities and impart practical skills to aid in their day-to-day roles.
• To develop and train clinical research coordinators in cell and gene therapy clinical trials.
• To expand knowledge of clinical research coordinators including best practices for documentation, informed consent process, data management, and security, AE/SAE/UP monitoring and reporting, IRB, hSCRO, and IBC, and study start-up and regulatory affairs.

This new program is expected to launch this summer.
